The pandemic, and its 9 months of stillness made most of the artists experience anxiety, distance, isolation, empathy, and uncertainty throughout the lockdown. Being confined in their homes – comfortable spaces with familiar objects – had never felt so alien.
During the lockdown – sound, transportation, meditation, and touch, became very important to analyze, which Amol K Patil explored through a workshop process with the artists. Camera lenses, device screens, software, applications, everyday objects, their own spaces, and the objects in these spaces became tools to express their thoughts and create work. The final works invite viewers into their sites and spaces. While some of these projects are site-specific, others are displayed in a site close to them, and attempt to overcome geographical dislocation and regular presentation norms.
